If you hear a voice within you say "you cannot paint", then by all means paint, and this voice will be silenced.

Here’s my forward fold for Day 5 💫 of #NEWYEA Here’s my forward fold for Day 5 💫 of #NEWYEARYOGAINTENTIONS

Today is about surrender. Surrender to me has a lot to do with trust. Trusting that we’re on the right path, trusting that this situation has something for me to learn and benefit from, now or at a later point in life.

This trust however doesn’t mean simply accepting everything as it is and leaning back. It has nothing to do with inaction and hiding from our work in this world. This surrender in f.ex. a situation of injustice can mean surrendering to the knowing inside of you that says you have to stand up and act for change, even though you’re afraid and fear the struggles that will come with this fight. It is about surrendering to the greater path rather than your individual pleasure and pain.

#NEWYEARYOGAINTENTIONS 💫 this is the last day! Congratulations to everyone who participated. The winners will soon be announced 🥳

Day 5 💫 of #NEWYEARYOGAINTENTIONS is about open Day 5 💫 of #NEWYEARYOGAINTENTIONS is about opening the heart.

I choose to open my heart not only to the good things and happy feelings, but also to let in and acknowledge the pain of the world and the suffering of my fellow human beings.

We grow up in a society where bad emotions are something we tend to hide and just show a happy face instead. Turning away from the suffering of our fellow humans. Running away from pain and chasing short term pleasure. Everything on the market is built around this concept. Covering up our own and other people’s pain by buying something that gives us a few moments of endorphins, but never long lasting happiness.

The yoga practice makes us FEEL again. My backbends today felt miserable. It was a real struggle for my back and hips today. My whole body felt stiff, weak and heavy.

I assume that this might have to do with what I heard in the news yesterday. I felt really unsettled. What happened in the US was deeply concerning for me. It reminded me that peace and stability is not something to take for granted and war CAN happen if we don’t continually WORK for peace. Please let’s all use our platforms and powers to do just that!

Day 3 💫 of #NEWYEARYOGAINTENTIONS is about turn Day 3 💫 of #NEWYEARYOGAINTENTIONS is about turning your view upside down 🙃

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

Maybe you know that I’ve studied social and cultural anthropology. And one of the biggest lessons I’ve taken away from it was also the motto of our faculty:

“We have to see the world from as many perspectives as possible.”

How rich life and our understanding of life get once we see things, situations and people from different angles and perspectives. Categories, judgments and boxes become obsolete and even ridiculous to someone who is looking at the world in a broader context.

#PARIGHASANA for Day 2 of #NEWYEARYOGAINTENTIONS c #PARIGHASANA for Day 2 of #NEWYEARYOGAINTENTIONS challenge 💫

Today’s asana theme is side bend and today’s topic is about creating strength:

Do you feel strong?

When do you feel strong?

What makes you feel strong? And what makes you feel weak?

I can speak for myself that my Ashtanga Yoga practice makes me feel strong. I can remember when I did my yin yoga teacher training and only did yin yoga for one whole week. At the end of the week I felt extremely light and fragile, not light in a good way but in a way where I felt like I don’t have both feet on the ground, I don’t want to speak up loudly and I was feeling kind of shy. I really have nothing against yin yoga! Actually I love it, and also practice it occasionally, but that’s really when I realized that I personally (with my Vata-pitta constitution) need the physical and mental strength of the Ashtanga yoga practice for a strong sense of grounding and confidence.

This is 💫 Day 1 of #NEWYEARYOGAINTENTIONS chall This is 💫 Day 1 of #NEWYEARYOGAINTENTIONS challenge with a pose that I‘ve always wanted to try ever since I’ve seen it in one of @kinoyoga s posts one day!

Today‘s asana theme is balance pose and the journal intention is about finding balance in life:

„I commit myself to developing the highest level of balance in my life.“

Why is balance important?

What does balance mean to you?

Do you feel balanced right now?

When do you feel balanced?

And when do you feel out of balance? In these situations then, what can help you get back into balance?

These are important questions to reflect upon. Yoga aims at balancing the mind because a balanced, undisturbed, peaceful mind - that can stay balanced even in difficult situations - can take useful and intelligent decisions. Once strong emotions take over we’re not able to take rational decisions and actions anymore. That is why training the mind to keep balance even among hardship and struggle is so important. And that’s basically what we practice on the yoga mat in difficult asanas.
